The price is the same as before at £520, but this is still considerably higher than both the aforementioned MSI and Gigabyte boards, which sit at £470 and £430 respectively and offer similar feature sets. The power circuitry is key when dealing with HEDT CPUs, especially the likes of the 2990WX, and Asus claims there are space issues on X399 when trying to properly design for overclocked flagship Threadripper.

Aesthetically. the board is pleasing to the eye; a good layout with easy to reach areas making installation of components simple. The included M.2 heat spreader is welcome for dual graphics card setups as the heat from the second lower card will cause some heat issues for the NVMe drive.

The B360 Phantom Gaming 4 is pretty loaded for a motherboard around the $100 mark. Intel NICs cost a pretty penny, and the ASMedia ASM3142 USB 3.1 (10Gbps) controller isn’t cheap either, neither is the ALC1200.

The fact that Aorus is the gaming-precious brand of Gigabyte and is supposed to form something like the counterpart to Asus’ ROG in the end, everyone knows by now (almost) that. Then, of course, there is also the certain exclusivity or Luxury surcharge on it, but what’s the point, as long as the equivalent is right and the overall package remains plausible.

The MPG Z390M Gaming Edge AC’s voltage regulator cooling is only sufficient for Core i9-9900K at stock speed, or for overclocking Core i7 or Core i5 processors. And its slot arrangement is only adequate for two double-slot cards at best. For buyers whose configurations fall within those limitations, it’s a solid deal.
