Around back we find a classic PS/2 port for legacy mice and keyboards, two USB 2.0 ports, a DisplayPort 1.2 connector with a meager 24 Hz refresh rate at 4096X2304, USB 3.1 Gen2 ports in Type A and Type-C versions fed by a dual-lane PCIe 3.0 controller, four SATA 3.0 ports (MSI calls these 3.1 Gen1), an HDMI 1.4 output with a still-meager 30 Hz refresh rate at 4096×2160, five analog audio jacks, and a digital optical audio output.

MSI is using the transition to Z370 as an opportunity to freshen its mainstream boards’ styling cues. The Pro Carbon still takes after automotive themes, but I daresay it’s grown up a bit since our experience with its Z270 cousin. No, we’re not looking at real carbon fiber on this board’s I/O shroud, but the subtle patterning on these accents is pleasant-looking enough.

MSI splits the SATA connectors to enable better case cabling. A group of four, split into two pairs, are resident by the southbridge whilst a couple of rotated ports line the left-hand edge of the board. Most folks will only use a couple, so at least there is some flexibility in what you use and where.
