Asus knocks it out of the park with the ROG Strix X370-I Gaming when it comes to Mini-ITX form factor motherboards. If money is no concern and building a water-cooled small form factor box is the goal, this Asus surpasses other boards and lands our Tom’s Hardware Editor Recommended Award for that use case.

So even with new CPUs on the way if you are looking to build small form factor you will most likely still need to go X370 initially. So I’m excited both to finally see what Asus has to offer for AM4 ITX and to see how it compares to the Gigabyte AB350N board that I’ve been using all over the office. But I’m also hoping the Strix X370-I Gaming is a solid board that will let me build a crazy second gen Ryzen build when they finally come out as well.

Despite being an ITX motherboard the days when that meant you had to make considerable performance concessions are far enough behind us that the ASUS Strix easily managed 4 GHz in our overclock test, which should, and indeed does, lead to some excellent results.

The wait is over, though, and while Gigabyte (as well as Biostar and ASRock for that matter) beat Asus to the finish line with its B350-based AB350N-Gaming WiFi, the ROG Strix X370-I Gaming is far more enthusiast orientated with better cooling albeit a similar six-phase power delivery.
