MSI MAG Z690 TOMAHAWK WIFI DDR4 – Overclockers Russia

Today we will look at a motherboard that has a twin. We have already studied one model – MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk WIFI . If the name says nothing about memory, then this is a clear sign that the device supports DDR5. And the MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk WIFI DDR4 turned out to be tested, and here it is already clear that it is for DDR4 memory.

The price range of boards based on the Z690 is very large, and the memory can be left with DDR4. In this article, we will get acquainted with one of the most inexpensive boards, the cost of which is even lower than for a considerable number of solutions based on the junior chipsets of the 600th series – MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk Z690 WiFi DDR4. This motherboard supports DDR4 memory (as the name implies), but there is a modification that supports DDR5 memory.

We have an ATX motherboard. Its dimensions do not differ from the classic ones and are 305 x 244 mm. The external design is simple and is not remembered by anything, except for the cutout on the right edge. The board itself is dark brown, there are almost no prints, the heatsinks are black and almost without any inscriptions. Only the chipset heatsink says Tomahawk.

MSI MAG Z690 TOMAHAWK WIFI DDR4 – Tom’s Hardware

Performance on the Z690 Tomahawk ended up average overall among the other boards we tested. While all tests were very close in either direction, the Procyon tests showed the most significant departure from average, matching the slower DDR4 boards more closely than their DDR5 counterparts. Gaming results were on par, if not marginally faster, than the rest so we’re in good shape there.

But leaving aside the non-enlightenment. The most interesting thing about this board is possibly the type of memory it uses, I am talking about the well-known DDR4 memory. For this, the Tomahawk has 4 slots that support up to 128Gb in total and that support speeds of up to 5200MHz with overclock . Although, as you already know, depending on the memory that is installed, this speed can be very different.

MSI MAG Z690 TOMAHAWK WIFI DDR4 – eTeknix

While this is one of the more affordable Z690 gaming motherboards we’ve got in the office, it’s still pretty well equipped. It’s more on the high-end of the mid-range motherboards. Thankfully, that should be reflected with a reasonable price tag too. It’ll make good use of DDR4, support speeds of up to 5200 MHz. There’s a decent 16+1+1 Duet Rail Power Stage design, with PWM IC and a 70A Smart Power Stage. However, it’s the connectivity that looks even better, with PCIe Gen 5 and Gen 4 support, the latest USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, Audio Boost 5, 2.5 Gbps LAN and the ultra-fast Intel Wi-Fi 6.
