ASUS ROG STRIX B450-I GAMING

The mini-ITX format is a delicate matter like aligning the legs of an LGA socket. Here, a factor such as congestion / oversaturation is already starting to play a role. Adding something over and above the standard set has to be greatly perverted, resorting to non-standard solutions, “sandwich” approach, daughter boards, and sometimes to changing the usual topology.

ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING

Starting at the top, the B550i Gaming currently supports Ryzen 3000 series, but ASUS does have plans to support Zen 3 with an upcoming BIOS update. As noted above, this motherboard is on the B550 chipset platform and, as such, supports DDR4 memory – 2133 JEDEC as a minimum with 5100+ speeds capable with overclocking.

GIGABYTE Z490I AORUS ULTRA

The Z490I Ultra is an overall fantastic board with no major issues to speak of. I would like to see some refinements in UEFI to add secure erase functionality, removing the need for specialized software in Windows. Additionally, EasyTune will need some work as I could not load it despite several attempts to reinstall, etc. That said, for those wanting a software solution for tuning, XTU is freely available from Intel.

ASRock A520M ITX/ac

The ITX form factor has a dedicated following, and the ASRock A520M ITC/ac definitely seems to thinks so. With the ever increasing integration of functionality into the chipset, there really isn’t a need for multiple PCIe slots like there has been in years past. Does a typical gamer need more than one slot for a graphics card? If the board has WiFi, LAN, USB 3.0 and decent audio, most of the core bases are covered.

The motherboard also features a new color theme; full RGB LED support and even an M.2 heat sink.
