ASUS ROG ZENITH EXTREME ALPHA

This board is no joke, while the “Alpha” name may seem a bit extreme or silly, it really is the new alpha in my opinion for anyone looking at Threadripper. The new Zenith features a VRM so large it takes up the entirety of the top of the board going from basically end to end with VRM components.

ASUS ROG ZENITH EXTREME ALPHA

ASUS put seven fan headers on the motherboard, all of them are hybrid DC/PWM mode fans, one is occupied by the heat sink fans. The orange and blue fan headers are all rated 1A, but the blue share controls. The red and yellow headers offer 3A, but the yellow headers run full speed by default.

ASUS ROG ZENITH EXTREME ALPHA

The price is the same as before at £520, but this is still considerably higher than both the aforementioned MSI and Gigabyte boards, which sit at £470 and £430 respectively and offer similar feature sets. The power circuitry is key when dealing with HEDT CPUs, especially the likes of the 2990WX, and Asus claims there are space issues on X399 when trying to properly design for overclocked flagship Threadripper.

ASUS ROG MAXIMUS XI CODE

Hard as it is to believe, the ROG Maximus XI Code isn’t the most expensive Z390 board in the Maximus line. The Maximus XI Formula (with its advanced cooling features and extra lighting) goes for more than $400, for example, and the Extended-ATX Maximus XI Extreme clocks (and for the money, overclocks) in at about $600, more than the most expensive CPU it can accept.
