Well, I published our first X470 review and I finished testing other boards including the Gigabyte X470 Aorus Gaming 7 WiFi that I’m going to take a look at today. We already know that the difference between X370 and X470 isn’t huge but I am curious to see what some of the companies have changed in the year gap between the chipsets.

So, AMD’s 2nd Gen Ryzen CPUs turned out to be rather good, but to take advantage of all the features on offer, you’ll need one of the newer X470 or B450 motherboards, and it’s the former that we’re looking at today, specifically Gigabyte’s X470 Aorus Gaming 7 WiFi.

However, Gigabyte’s designers have taken the feedback from the media and builders to make this board even better than their 300 series predecessors. This X470 board has toned down the plastic and over-aggressive molding of boards past, in favor of a more industrial and anodized styling. We’d call that an improvement.

Largely the X470 seems to be a slightly revised version of the X370 chipset. As we saw on the ASUS Crosshair the Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 7 follows a similar path of being very similar to a the X370 – barely a year old – with a few additional features to keep it cresting the wave of the leading edge of technology.

The Gaming 7 Wifi is one of three new Aorus X470 boards with others being Gaming 5 Wifi and Ultra Gaming. The 7 stands alone in terms of electrical specification as it has a 10+2-phase digital CPU power supply while the cheaper pair make do with 8+3.
