ASRock X299 Taichi

Our first ASRock X299 motherboard review is here, and today we will look at the X299 Taichi. The Taichi brand has been one ASRock has offered since they launched their X99 Taichi last year. The whole concept of the Taichi is balance and in this case a balance of price and features. The motherboards have always been solid, but never over the top or of lower quality than one might expect from a high-end motherboard.

ASRock X299 Taichi

The X299 Taichi’s CPU-fed M.2 slot is likely the biggest competitive advantage of the three LGA 2066 motherboards tested thus far. Though the way its extra M.2 slot is connected precludes SLI when used with Kaby Lake-X, the X299 Taichi is cheap enough to offset the cost of a Skylake-X CPU upgrade.

ASRock X299 Taichi

ASRock’s Taichi products are one of my favorites. They are very clearly designed for users just like me. They make use of all the platform’s features and add nothing extra or superfluous; it’s just nitty-gritty goodness that soothes the soul. The ASRock X299 Taichi definitely does this, but there are a couple ripples on the lake’s surface that have left me a bit perplexed.

ASRock X370 Taichi

Certainly if your decisions are made based upon the hardware then the Taichi ticks a lot of boxes. Black Caps, a BCLK Engine clock generator and 16 Phase Power handle the overclocking duties. Connectivity is full of the technologies that you would expect to find on a modern motherboard, from WiFi to USB 3.1 and the super speedy M.2.

ASRock Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4

It has two less PCI-E 2.0 ports from the chipset, four less USB 3.0 ports, and two less SATA6Gb/s ports. The good news is that the chipset supports overclocking and provides two USB 3.1 ports just like the X370 chipset. For many people, the B350 chipset might be better than the X370 because of the cost savings, so let’s see how good of a B350 motherboard the AB350 Gaming K4 is.
