ASRock’s X299E-ITX/ac really does mITX X299 perfectly. If you want 18 cores of a CPU, lots of M.2 drives, maybe some normal SSDs or mechanical drives, they all fit in here. Dual LAN chips, Wi-Fi, and decent sound are all present as well. Support for some high-speed RAM? Yes, that’s here too, and there are a decent number of USB ports all things considered.

ASRock has a reputation for delivering mini-ITX motherboards for Intel’s high-end desktop (HEDT) platform where other motherboard vendors dare not try. With X299 ASRock has done it again, this time with the X299E-ITX/ac, and this small-yet-mighty motherboard has a range of tricks up its sleeves.

The ASRock X299E-ITX/ac is currently the only available Mini-ITX board for the X299 platform. EVGA, MSI, and ASRock do offer MicroATX sized boards, but none are like this. Typically with Mini-ITX boards, their small dimensions yield an obvious lack of real estate for adding functionality.

The only consumer Mini-ITX motherboard for LGA 2066 becomes our only choice for these builds. Users who are certain that they have sufficient airflow over the voltage regulator will be very pleased with its overclocking capabilities, and those less certain should add a monitoring device.

ASRock’s X99 Mini-ITX was one of a kind, and with the advent of Intel’s X299 chipset, ASRock once again breaks the monotony of full-sized ATX motherboards and shrinks the HEDT X299 platform for small form factor (SFFPC) builds. The X299E-ITX/ac has many advantages over its predecessor.
