ASUS ROG ZENITH EXTREME

Today, we’ll be kicking off with the flagship ASUS Zenith Extreme, one of the most feature packed boards in the X399 range. Obviously, it’ll have the new AMD TR4 Socket and all the swanky new features that brings. This is the first time in a long time AMD have had something to compete with the HEDT hardware from Intel, so let’s take a look at what it has to offer.

GIGABYTE X399 AORUS Gaming 7

Equipped with Triple M.2 with Thermal Guard, 120dB SNR ALC1220, Killer E2500 Gaming Network, Front & Rear USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C, Intel Dual Band 802.11ac WiFi+BT4.2, and so much RGB lighting, we could write a whole review just about that. This motherboard is crammed with hardware, and so much so, we doubt most users would even need or use it all. Of course, it’s better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

MSI X299 TOMAHAWK ARCTIC

The X299 Tomahawk Arctic looks fabulous with its generous helping of white, from the PCB to the DIMM slots and I/O shroud. The contrast with the metal CPU socket and steel-clad DIMM slots and PCIe slots looks great, so if you’re after an icy clean look for your build then we can’t think of too many other options for Intel’s high-end desktop platform at the moment.

GIGABYTE X399 AORUS GAMING 7

As far as X399 chipset motherboards for AMD’s Threadripper CPUs go, Asus and MSI have done sterling work so far, and today we’re looking at Gigabyte’s effort in the form of the X399 Aorus Gaming 7. BIOSTAR A320MH PRO

The BIOSTAR A320MH Pro we are looking at today supports many features on top of what the CPU supports, but one of the best parts about the AM4 platform is that even chipsets such as the A320 support all Ryzen 7 CPUs such as the 1800X we are using today. Let’s take a look at what this extremely affordable motherboard has to offer.

ASUS ROG RAMPAGE VI EXTREME

In fact the Extreme comes with more than the Apex did, thanks to additional DIMM slots, vastly improved lighting, and the “LiveDash OLED” that puts onto your motherboard the type of display we last saw on the SteelSeries Rival 700 mouse. Black and white OLED that supports 2 bit GIFs as well as letting you know the current state of play. But why discuss the overview when we can show you the Rampage VI Extreme in the flesh?

MSI X399 GAMING PRO CARBON AC

This is still a fair bit more than the cheaper X299 boards out there, but this is a new platform after all, and prices will likely come down. Waiting is boring, though, so if you’re in the market for a Threadripper system now, we better take a closer look at the X399 Gaming Pro Carbon AC to see how well it stacks up
