ASRock has often been neglected by the enthusiast community where the big names of ASUS, GIGABYTE and MSI tend to take the lead. But recently ASRock has caused many to turn their attention to this small ASUS owned company. While many know that with the X58 Supercomputer, many people had to take note of what ASRock was doing with the help of ASUS engineers.

The integrated audio is yet another Realtek ALC890 7.1 HD Audio Codec. This is essentially perfect for users who can’t afford or don’t really need third party audio. The ACL890 offers acceptable performance if all you really need from your audio is basic use and gaming. However, it continues to be a dream of ours to see Realtek start offering something with better quality playback.

A full-fledged X58 motherboard for under $170 was just a dream a year ago, fully realized with the ASRock X58 Extreme motherboard. ASRock offers most of the features of the X58 SuperComputer with the exceptions being 3 full length PCI Express slots instead of four and better BIOS options. Performance is on par or better than that of the X58 SuperComputer which is much more expensive but has an additional PCI Express slot for another video card and supports the Tesla video cards from NVIDIA.

"The VRM and X58 chipset cooling solutions are linked together with a heatpipe; I do not consider this a very good solution because, as we already know, the X58 chipset is very hot also, like the VRM, and when we overclock the system and they will transfer the heat from one to another. I would have preferred this board to have some bigger heatsinks, with one or two heatpipes between the VRM and the X58 chipset."
