ASRock B550M Steel Legend

One of those motherboards which we will be reviewing, is the B550M Steel Legend. It comes in a micro ATX form factor and supports all of the latest AMD processors, including the Matisse refresh. So with that said, I’m sure that the B550M Steel Legend is already an interesting option for gamers and performance users alike.

MSI MAG B550M MORTAR

MSI has released the usual lineup of motherboards under several names including Pro, Tomahawk, Bazooka, Gaming, and the Mortar. While the actual name doesn’t have any bearing on the B550 chipset, the additional features each model provides is what is important. For those who favor only a system for gaming might consider the aptly named “Gaming” motherboards.

ASUS TUF GAMING B460M PLUS (WI-FI)

The Asus TUF Gaming B460M-Plus Wi-Fi follows on from the affordable ASRock and MSI’s B460 boards we’ve also been testing . Asus’ TUF products have evolved from the original Sabertooth boards into a distinct sub-brand. TUF branded supporting components, featuring the distinctive yellow tinged aesthetic, are also being produced by many peripheral manufacturers too.

MSI MAG B460M MORTAR WIFI

The MSI MAG B460M Mortar WiFi—let’s just call it the Mortar—is a Micro ATX board with a feature list we consider to be very competitive. Though looks are obviously subjective, I think it’s a very nice looking board with solid metal heatsinks and a rather subtle, perhaps even utilitarian theme. There are no RGB LEDs on the board itself but you do get RGB and ARGB connectors if you absolutely must have the bling.

As the dawn of 10th gen intel processor come to the release and a lot of boards have started to flood the market – with the amount of choices and close pricing between the available boards, can you really find a board that’s cheap but can handle as close to higher end boards? ASUS TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS (WI-FI)

Though looking similar to its immediate predecessor, the improved 8+2-phase power stages have chunkier heatsinks on this time around, though as anyone who follows motherboards closely knows, there’s really no need for elaborate cooling for anything other than seat-of-your-pants overclocking, which goes against the grain of this board in any case. This thinking also helps explain why there’s no heatpipe between the two blocks.

MSI MAG B550M MORTAR

We’ve already been impressed by the capabilities of the MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk, and the Mortar appears at first glance to be the mATX version of that. Whilst we didn’t quite know what to expect from the Tomahawk our time with it means that we go into our review of the MSI MAG B550M Mortar with heightened expectations.
