Gigabyte GA-8PE800 Ultra

..:: Introduction ::..

With the recent release of Intel’s new i875P Canterwood chipset and the upcoming release of their new i865 Springdale chipset, there has been a recent influx of i845PE motherboards on the market carrying the number “800” in their name. These boards are qualified to run at an 800MHz FSB, and could easily become a cheap alternative to the newer Canterwood and Springdale boards without sacrificing too much performance. As we saw in our review of Intel’s i875P chipset, the i845PE tends to fall behind by roughly 7% when running head to head with a dual channel DDR400 setup. Today we have one of these new “800” i845PE motherboards, the Gigabyte GA-8PE800 Ultra. Can this board reach the magic 800MHZ FSB mark? How is the package? Does it meet the usual standard for Gigabyte motherboards, that being spectacular? Well, let’s find out shall we? Here’s a quick rundown of the specs for the GA-8PE800 Ultra.
