Naturally it supports AMD Threadripper, just as the X399 model code suggests, while other models of Taichi use Intel X99, X299, Z270 and Z370 chipsets, as well as AMD X370, so there is a Taichi for each of the current CPU platforms.

The MSI Z370 GAMING PRO CARBON is a well-equipped board. Ready for exactly such a build as I’ve got here in this review, MSI really built this board to be the base of any high-end gaming rig; all the bells and whistles you really do need are here, including superb audio, bundled Wi-Fi connectivity (from Intel, of course), high RAM compatibility, a good VRM design, and, of course, RGB LEDs.

We recently took a look at GIGABYTE’s AORUS Gaming 7 for the Z370 platform, and today we will look at its little brother, the Z370 AORUS Gaming 5. The Gaming 5 has fewer features than the Gaming 7 but also costs about $30 less. Saying it has fewer features isn’t the whole story though, as the Gaming 7 has two Gbit NICs, the Gaming 5 drops one of those for a WIFI controller.

There are several additional features that warrant the price hike but also mean that a successor to the awesome Gaming 5 is perhaps a little unlikely too. Thankfully, those features mean that while in name we’re looking at a successor to the Z270N-WiFi, the Z370N-WiFi is much more capable.

GIGABYTE’s X299 Aorus Gaming 7 PRO is GIGABYTE’s answer to Intel’s HCC (12+ core) CPUs, which pull over 200 with ease. The new CPUs, which were released months after Intel’s ten core and below X299 HEDT processors, have much higher power requirements than their predecessors.

The only consumer Mini-ITX motherboard for LGA 2066 becomes our only choice for these builds. Users who are certain that they have sufficient airflow over the voltage regulator will be very pleased with its overclocking capabilities, and those less certain should add a monitoring device.

The SLI Plus range of MSI motherboards is a brand that aims for a low-cost price point, but uses the overclocking chipset to aim for the entry level of performance-per-dollar while still retaining all the key chipset features as well as a number of aesthetics.

With the disappointing absence of Asus in the HEDT micro-ATX arena since it canned its Rampage Gene a while back, we’ve had to rely on other manufacturers, and thankfully all have come up trumps over the last few years.
