At over $600, the ASRock Z690 Taichi Razer Edition is a pricey alternative to the Taichi that includes more RGBs and native integration with the Razer Synapse ecosystem. If customizing your board and the attached lighting is key, the Razer Edition is a great choice in the premium motherboard space. Otherwise, there are better equipped and less expensive options available.

As far as board hardware goes, this Steel Legend platform follows what we have seen across the entire 600 series chipset ecosystem when considering ATX motherboards. LGA1700 socket for 12th Gen Intel CPUs, four slot memory subsystem, this board taking advantage of the lower cost of DDR4. 128GB of memory is supported with speeds from 3200MHz to 5333MHz via XMP 2.0.

The Taichi is one of the best motherboards coming out of ASRock’s current gen portfolio. That said, not everyone may be a fan of the latest aesthetic or the “gear” design used on the last two Z series platforms. For these consumers, ASRock has offered a Razer Edition solution built from their partnership with Razer for the previous few years. This “Razer Edition” shares the same hardware platform as the standard Taichi but changes the entire aesthetic of the motherboard, including all the motherboard heat sinks, rear I/O cover, and RGB layout.

At $1,149.99, the ASRock Z690 Aqua is the least expensive option for a flagship-class Z690 board with integrated custom water cooling. It has many features you’d expect on such an expensive motherboard, but it is missing a couple of things we would want (PCIe 5.0 M.2 storage and water flow/temperature sensors for the loop) that would make this unquestionably the liquid-cooled board to beat.

ASRock is preparing to showcase several cutting-edge motherboards at Computex 2022 next week. The firm’s first AMD Socket AM5 motherboards for Ryzen 7000 Zen 4 processors will be revealed for all to see. An official ASRock Computex event video, spotted by Twitter’s Komachi, is queued up for May 26. The video page says that ASRock will share details of its X670E Taichi, X670E Taichi Carrara, and other motherboards.
There are four motherboards mentioned in the Computex video details. The two most interesting boards are the X670E Taichi and X670E Taichi Carrara.

The description confirms that the board will use X670E chipset, which is supposedly the premium X670 variant featuring PCIe Gen5 support for both the GPU and storage. ASRock would be introducing X670 Taichi as well as Taichi Carrara motherboards, the later is a special edition celebrating ASRock’s 20th anniversary. Furthermore, the company confirms that its X670 Taichi series will feature a total of 26 power stages.

The Z690 Taichi comes in two SKUs; the standard Z690 Taichi and a Razer Edition, which we will be looking at in an upcoming review. Hardware-wise, these two platforms are nearly identical; Taichi is a Z690 chipset platform using DDR5 memory. Memory support is across four slots with a maximum capacity of 128GB. Speeds supported start at the bottom with JEDEC 4800 and run up to 6400MHz with XMP.

The ASRock Z690 Phantom Gaming-ITX/BT4 is delivered to us in a very small box that quickly makes us understand that we have in our hands a motherboard as compact as possible. At $159.99, the B660 Steel Legend is priced right and comes with a feature set comparable to the competition, including multiple M.2 sockets, a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 port, and some bright RGB lighting. Performance was off in some heavily multi-threaded tests due to thermal throttling, but a simple voltage adjustment should mitigate this concern, as would running a lesser processor.
