abit KV7

..:: Introduction ::..

It’s been some time since I was last able to take a good look at an AMD based solution from the likes of Abit. Our last experience was with the nForce2 IGP based NF7-M. Since that time, Abit has released several revisions of the famed NF7-S, with the most recent revision being based off of the nForce2 400 Ultra chipset. There can be no doubts about the nForce2 chipset, it has brought performance to new levels and throughout the various revisions, nVidia has kept gaining speed. Not too long ago, VIA released their KT600 chipset which is positioned against the nForce2 chipset. One problem that has always held back overclocking enthusiasts from working with VIA solutions is their inherent lack of a set AGP / PCI frequency. This has been a known issue with all VIA chipsets, and it still exists within the KT600. Today, we’ll be taking a look at Abit’s own KT600 motherboard, the KV7, to see just how well the KT600 chipset performs, along with how well we can overclock the KV7.
