..:: Introduction ::..
It’s certainly been quite some time since we were last able to take a good look at one of Samsung’s hard drive models. As with all of our experiences with Samsung HDD’s, it went quite well. Samsung has never been known to be first out of the gates with products based off of cutting edge technology like the SATA-II standard, but this time around they made out quite well. Even though, more often than not, their products are delayed a little, when they do become available they perform nicely and are well known for their quiet operation. I can vouch for both of those aspects.
Samsung’s SpinPoint P Series line brought Samsung into the world of Serial ATA, and now Serial ATA-II. The latest drives from the SpinPoint P Series feature Native Command Queuing (NCQ), 3.0GB/s Interface Support, High Speed Dual Digital Signal Processors, NoiseGuard™, SilentSeek™, and several other technologies we’ve seen in previous drives. With the release of chipsets supporting the SATA-II 3.0GB/s interface, these drives have made their way into the market, and Samsung’s 2504C is one of them. This drive rolls in at 250GB, with a 200GB version also available. Today, we’ll be taking a look at this drive to see if it keeps up with the reliability and silence of previous Samsung models.

There’s not much you can really say about a hard drive. In general, they all feature similar casings, built of similar materials and with similar controller IC’s. This drive is no different, and apart from looking slightly less abused in comparison to our older Samsung drives, looks identical other than the text on label. As we can see marked on the label, our review sample is from the first batch of drives, Rev. A. As with all SATA devices, the connections are all on the rear of the unit, along with the jumpers for use with the drive settings.
