..:: Introduction ::..

The impact upon the hardware community that has come since the launch of the very first Small Form Factor, or SFF, PC’s cannot be avoided. Many gaming fans out there, especially those who tote their PC’s to local or national LAN tournaments have always been looking to slim down their system in order to make their lives a little bit easier, while at the same time not diminishing their gaming quality and experience. The SFF market once consisted of a single dominant player, and many feel that it still does, that being Shuttle. Shuttle has been used as the benchmark comparison for all other SFF PC’s, and as new manufacturers begin to move resources to R&D of SFF PC’s, they have been gradually becoming more powerful, quieter, and more impressive as far as looks and interior wire orientation goes.
We have been looking to expand the hardware that we bring you for reviews, and today we have our first SFF PC review of Soltek’s QBIC 3702M. This is the latest incarnation of the 3702, which adds native support for 400MHz FSB AMD AthlonXP microprocessors, something few other nVIDIA IGP based SFF PC’s currently offer. We’ve heard some good things about the Soltek QBIC PC’s, and we’ve heard some not so good things. Soltek has been known for creating some gorgeous enclosures, and quiet cooling systems, but often the interior is too cramped, and the cables are not arranged in an airflow friendly layout. Does the 3702M suffer from these problems, or has Soltek listened to the consumer and made adjustments? First off, let’s take a quick look at the specifications, and package, then we’ll begin our look at the Soltek QBIC 3702M.
