    Find the Best Prices:
    Intel D865PERL (Springdale-PE)
    Stephen Cooper, May 21st, 2003

    ..:: Intel D865PERL “Rock Lake” Motherboard ::..

         It’s been just over a month now since the release of Intel’s latest high-end workstation / enthusiast chipset, code-named Canterwood. In the past month, several of the main manufacturers have come out with their i875P offerings, all of them offering superior performance but the only problem is the price that comes with this performance. I’ve seen some of the more popular boards running well into the $200 range, a price many are not willing to pay. Today marks the release of the new Springdale line of chipsets, a cheaper alternative that, unlike the Canterwood chipset, do not come with support for Intel’s Performance Acceleration Technology or ECC memory. Other than these two differences, the chipsets themselves are one in the same, so I won’t be discussing the new features brought forth by these chipsets again. If you’d like to see our write up on the new technologies, such as the Communications Streaming Architecture, take a look at our i875P chipset review for all the information. Today, we’ll be taking a look at two boards based off the new i865 Springdale chipset, first off the D845PERL “Rock Lake” motherboard based off of i865PE. Before we begin, here’s a quick rundown of the specifications for this board, along with some of the features dealing with the SoundMAX 4XL integrated audio.
