Unlike the review we completed last week of the 915A03-P-8EKRS, heading into this review we knew what to expect when it comes to Foxconn and their product packages, at least for mid-range products. For the most part, the product package was identical to that of the 915A03-P-8EKRS, minus an item or two here and there. As we found with the 915A03-P-8EKRS’s documentation, the 915M07-G-8EKRS came with a load of excellent items. Since the packages are so closely linked, the bulk of this might seem repetitive as it’s basically a restatement of what we found last week.
To start things off, we have the various documentation items for the 915M07-G-8EKRS. Foxconn has offered a one page layout diagram, although there is no fold-out section as we have seen with other manufacturers. This item has steadily been making headway into more product packages to give the user one diagram to look at rather than hunting through the manual to find a certain connector or page. Just as we found with the 915A03-P-8EKRS last week, we were impressed with the quality of the product manual. It offers a wide variety of information on the BIOS, system setup, as well as background information on each of the connections that are available on the board itself. The only area where some additional material could’ve been added was the install guide, the same lacking we found with the 915A03-P-8EKRS manual.
As far as hardware related inclusions go, the 915M07-G-8EKRS differs from the 915A03-P-8EKRS mainly in that it does not include any rear expansion brackets for USB or audio support. Unlike the 915A03-P-8EKRS, we’ve only a single Serial ATA data cable, as well as a single Molex power adapter for one Serial ATA devices. There is a single IDE cable for use with the ICH6’s native IDE support, and an additional floppy cable for archaic but still somewhat useful floppy drives. Given that the 915M07-G-8EKRS is based off of a mATX design, I wasn’t expecting to find many additions to the motherboard, or the product package for that matter, so once again we’re seeing the bare minimum on the hardware end.
Overall, the 915M07-G-8EKRS‘s package is exactly what we were expecting. Given that the board is based off of a mATX design, right off the bat we weren’t expecting much. Another factor that clearly allows for hardware inclusions to go the way of the dodo is that this is an i915G motherboard, and is likewise heavily integrated. From a hardware item standpoint, we were pleased to find all of the required items, though I would’ve liked to see an additional Serial ATA data and power cable included. The documentation that Foxconn has included is superb. Foxconn has managed to provide a well rounded and detailed look at the capabilities and layout of the 915M07-G-8EKRS, along with a good guide covering software installation.
